BLOOMSBURY FARM SCHOOL

OUR VISION

‘To provide children a safe space to grow, develop imagination and explore the natural beauty of the farm and forest.  We support and encourage curiosity, creativity, community, and the joy of cultivation.’

Our vision is for each child to connect to nature in a meaningful way, where we all understand play and learning are synonymous. Through repeated exposure and engagement with the forest, field, and farm children encounter spontaneous teachable moments that shape their love for learning and the world around them. We truly believe in the meaningful moments of “masterful inactivity” (a phrase coined by the English Educator, Charlotte Mason) provide children with the opportunities to engage creatively, interact collaboratively, and explore meaningfully.

Fostering life long learners and seekers.

Learning Approaches

Children have the innate desire to ask questions and learn, explore and discover, and experience their surroundings. Forest/Nature  school supports learning through an experiential pedagogical framework that is child-centered, play and place-based, and roused through inquiry and an emergent curriculum. This also includes a challenge by choice approach to engagement and supporting risky play for healthy development.

LEARNING Framework

We offer a hands-on approach to learning where skills, knowledge, and experiences are acquired with guided reflection throughout. We operate within an emergent, Inquiry-based and Student-led learning approach here at Bloomsbury Farm School , learning is a dynamic and fluid process. Each day differs from the last, similar to the rhythms of nature. Teachers offer support, guidance, and scaffolding within the curriculum, giving space to discover and add to the curriculum as we go. Using learning standards and best practices, with appropriate scaffolding, student interests and the rhythms of nature remain at the forefront of all we do.

Bloomsbury Farm School believes tapping into a child’s innate sense of wonder and curiosity, with nature as a guide for all things. Our lessons flow organically from the natural rhythms of the seasons and from the children’s daily discoveries. Each day is shaped by the animals, insects, birds, amphibians, weather, and farm and forest, providing endless spontaneous teachable moments.

We integrate best practices in all levels of offered education and often incorporate threads from various teaching philosophies (including Waldorf, Reggio-Emilia, Wild Schooling, and Montessori among others) to weave a vibrant tapestry of child-led learning in the rich forest and farm environment. This interdisciplinary approach guides children to be self-motivated, cooperative, respectful, grateful, and aware of their impact on the earth.
