K-5 LEARNING FRAMEWORK: 3-day homeschool tutorial program for children ages 5 through 12 (K-5th grade, must be 5 by May 2025)

We work to build a robust balance of structured learning time in all core subject areas, as well as unstructured learning through playfulness and experiential nature immersion both grade specific and peer integrated. Our learning framework is living and moving with respect to the children, to our forest/farm/nature home, and to seasonal changes.

Our academic learning program is fully standards-aware and aligned. We see the TN State Standards as a roadmap of learning, marking where we are and where we are headed. Our teachers are not married to the standards in a particular order, within a specific scope and sequence, or within a rigid structure. We find that one excellent and exciting project can satisfy multiple standards, and standards are thus rarely taught in isolation, but woven into multiple experiences.

Our emergent framework is modeled on best practices within education today, such as: project-based learning, collaborative learning, authentic assessment practices, hands on learning, playful learning, and Social-Emotional Learning. Our commitment to small teacher-to-child ratios allow our teacher the freedom to individualize lesson plans based on observations, assessments, student curiosity, and need. Bloomsbury Farm School students will also be immersed in a variety of enrichment activities beyond our core curriculum subjects. Students will interact with grade level subjects in a child-led, nature focused manner with outdoor, hands-on learning championing the process.

Our program operates within a one room school house and offers the unique opportunity for students to learn and work together. Our daily rhythms create time for the whole school to play and interact together morning, lunch, and afternoon. Students participate in grade level work with their peers during core curricular time, while also having opportunities to work together and learn within the same spaces and integrate themes and project based learning across all ages.

You may also choose to enroll in Maker Monday and Farm/Forest Friday for a 5-day class experience.

These explorers will be immersed in the following areas of study —

  • Math

  • Science

  • Literacy/Language Arts

  • Social Studies

  • Social-Emotional Learning

We are inspired by many curricula and schools of thought, namely —

  • Project Learning Tree

  • Singapore

  • Wild Math

  • Handwriting Without Tears

  • Reggio Emilia

  • Montessori
